The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has reinstated Charles Mchacha as the Regional Governor for the Southern Region, marking a significant reshuffle within the party’s leadership. Mchacha, the Member of Parliament for Thyolo West Constituency, previously held this position until August 2024, when he was appointed as the Director of Operations during the party’s recent elective convention.
The announcement was confirmed by DPP’s Administrative Secretary, Francis Mphepo, who extended his congratulations and best wishes to Mchacha. “We extend our congratulations and best wishes to him as he assumes this new role,” said Mphepo, emphasizing the party’s confidence in Mchacha’s leadership capabilities.
Mchacha’s return to the role comes at a crucial time as the DPP seeks to consolidate its influence in the Southern Region. Known for his political experience and long-standing loyalty to the party, Mchacha is anticipated to play a key role in mobilizing grassroots support and strengthening the DPP’s presence in preparation for the 2025 general elections.

With his reassignment, Mchacha faces the task of addressing the evolving challenges within the Southern Region, where the DPP has historically held substantial support. His previous experience as Regional Governor may provide him with a foundation to effectively manage the party’s affairs and reinforce its strategies in the region.
As the DPP moves forward with these new appointments, the party is hopeful that its reshuffled leadership team, including Mchacha’s reappointment, will help galvanize members and supporters, fostering a renewed sense of unity and purpose ahead of the upcoming elections.
