MEC Urged to Collaborate with CSOs for Better Voter Registration

Renowned governance activist Undule Mwakasungula has called on the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to partner with civil society organizations to boost voter registration.

In a press statement, Mwakasungula expressed concern over the low 65% turnout in the first phase, highlighting a significant gender gap with 56.7% male and 72% female registrants.

Mwakasungula emphasized the need for joint efforts to encourage mass participation, particularly among male voters, to ensure equal representation and exercise of constitutional rights.

The second phase of voter registration commenced today, November 9, 2024.
