Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Anabel Mtalimanja remains hopeful about voter engagement despite a slow start in eligible voter registration during the second phase of the exercise in Mchinji. During her visit to the district on Monday, Mtalimanja observed that the registration process had begun positively, with staff working diligently at each center.

She highlighted the presence of National Registration Bureau (NRB) personnel across all registration centers to conduct necessary verification exercises, helping streamline the registration process.

MEC’s Chief Elections Officer, Andrew Mpesi, has called on election staff to report any operational challenges they encounter, assuring that management is ready to address technical issues promptly to ensure a smooth process.

One prospective voter, Janet Njatu, shared her motivation for registering, expressing her commitment to exercising her right to vote in the upcoming elections. “I registered because I want my voice to be heard,” Njatu said.

The MEC team remains focused on improving turnout and is encouraging all eligible Malawians to register and participate in the country’s democratic process.
