By Burnett Munthali

Lilongwe, Malawi – The Roads Authority (RA) has issued an official communication to its employees, apologizing for the delay in processing November 2024 salaries. The announcement, signed by Chief Executive Officer Engineer Ammiel Champiti, assures employees that the issue will be resolved by Monday, December 2, 2024.

In a memo dated November 29, 2024, Champiti explained that the delay was caused by a “static flow” of operational funding from the Roads Fund Administration (RFA). He further stated that while the situation was beyond the immediate control of RA management, the organization is working closely with its banking partners to ensure that salary payments are processed promptly.

“The bank has assured us that the delayed transfer process will be concluded by the close of business on Monday,” the memo reads.

Employee Impact

The delay has understandably caused inconvenience for RA employees, many of whom depend on timely salary payments to meet personal and financial obligations. Champiti expressed management’s deep regret over the disruption, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to resolving such issues promptly in the future.

Assurance of Future Stability

In the memo, management reiterated its dedication to ensuring that operational funding challenges do not affect employees’ welfare going forward. Efforts are reportedly underway to streamline the flow of funds between RA and RFA to prevent similar occurrences.

The Roads Authority has urged staff to remain patient as the matter is being addressed. Employees are advised to check their respective bank accounts by the end of the day on Monday for confirmation of payments.

This incident highlights the importance of seamless financial operations within government agencies, particularly those responsible for critical infrastructure development. The RA remains committed to fulfilling its obligations to employees and ensuring smooth operations across the board.
