Mathews Mtumbuka to contest as MP for Rumphi Central

Dr. Mathews Mtumbuka, who was a contender for the UTM Party presidency, has announced his intention to run for the position of Member of Parliament (MP) for Rumphi Central in the upcoming elections.

In a post on his social media platform, Dr. Mtumbuka revealed that the decision to contest was influenced by persistent requests from traditional leaders in his area. He stated that local chiefs have been urging him to vie for the position since 2019, and he has now decided to heed their call.

“Today, I have accepted their request and made the decision to run for MP in Rumphi Central, the area where I grew up. I am doing this to contribute to the development of my people,” Dr. Mtumbuka declared.

Dr. Mtumbuka also confirmed that he will be contesting on a UTM Party ticket. His decision has sparked excitement and anticipation among his supporters, who view his candidacy as a chance for progressive leadership in the constituency.

Rumphi Central, located in the northern region of Malawi, has been a critical constituency with diverse developmental needs. Dr. Mtumbuka, a prominent figure in academia and politics, brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the race.
