This afternoon, President Lazarus Chakwera is attending the swearing-in ceremony of Eng. Vitumbiko Mumba as the newly appointed Minister of Labour. Mumba’s appointment comes after the resignation of former Labour Minister, Agnes NyaLonje, who stepped down for personal reasons on Wednesday.
The ceremony is taking place in the presence of Mumba’s family members and senior leaders from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), who have gathered to witness the occasion and show their support for the new minister.
Following the swearing-in, Mumba is expected to travel to Mzuzu, where MCP supporters have gathered at the party’s regional headquarters. There, Mumba will address the gathering, marking his first public engagement since his appointment.
Mumba’s appointment has been met with anticipation, as the newly sworn-in minister takes on the important task of overseeing the country’s labour affairs amidst ongoing efforts to address employment challenges and workers’ rights in Malawi.
