The Right Reverend William Mchombo, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the Upper Shire (ADUS), has called on Malawians and the Church’s faithful to embrace the spirit of Christmas by fostering unity, understanding, and kindness, especially toward the marginalized.
In his Christmas message released on Monday, Bishop Mchombo highlighted the need for Malawians to look beyond divisions created by political affiliations, religion, tribe, or social status. He urged the nation to unite against its real challenge—the struggling economy.
“The common enemy for Malawi is the poor economy, which requires concerted efforts to address it,” Bishop Mchombo stated in his message.
Bishop Mchombo encouraged members of the Church to use the festive season as an opportunity to renew their faith and commitment to helping the less privileged. Drawing on the teachings of Christ, he called for acts of compassion and grace toward those in need.
“Let us come together to celebrate the blessings we have received and share them generously with those around us, especially our brothers and sisters who are in need of food, shelter, clothing, and healing,” he wrote.
The bishop’s message also emphasized the importance of building bridges across societal divides. By fostering understanding and solidarity, Malawians can create a more cohesive and compassionate society.
His message resonates with the spirit of Christmas—a time for reconciliation, generosity, and the celebration of shared humanity.
As Malawi faces economic challenges, Bishop Mchombo’s words are a poignant reminder of the importance of unity and collective effort. By focusing on kindness and shared responsibility, the nation can work toward overcoming its difficulties and uplifting the most vulnerable members of society.
This Christmas, the bishop’s call serves as an inspiration for Malawians to embody the true meaning of the season: spreading love, fostering understanding, and building a brighter future for all.
