In the spirit of Christmas, the Community of Saint Egidio organized a festive luncheon for over 200 vulnerable children in Katawa Township, Mzuzu City.
The event aimed to bring joy and hope to those who might have otherwise gone without a meal on Christmas Day.
According to Director of Programmes, Crief Daniel, the luncheon embodied the community’s values of love, peace, and harmony.
“We preach a message of hope, peace, love, and harmony to mankind, and this event is a clear manifestation of our School of Peace,” Daniel explained. “We couldn’t celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ without sharing that joy with our fellow children who are less fortunate.”
Daniel expressed gratitude to the community’s partners including three international volunteers available during the luncheon for their support in making the event a success.
The children, who were treated to a nutritious meal, were overjoyed and thankful for the kindness shown to them.
Ten-year-old Joyce Kumwenda, a beneficiary of the Community’s School of Peace initiative, praised the program for teaching her valuable life skills.
“The School of Peace teaches us the spirit of sharing, which is the basis of Godliness,” Joyce said.
The Community of Saint Egidio’s School of Peace has had a significant impact on the lives of vulnerable children in the country’s cities, contributing to increased enrolment and a reduction in juvenile-related criminal activities.
