The clergy speaking out today in response to Archbishop Thomas Msusa’s statement on the Commission of Inquiry report are misleading the public. One such individual is Alfred Mphote, who has become notorious for his controversial actions. Despite his position in the church, he is not only deceitful but also engages in behavior that contradicts his role as a leader.
Mphote, a man with two wives in Lilongwe alone, has been involved in dishonest dealings, especially when it comes to his personal relationships. His second family, which he has hidden from the public eye, is also notable for the fact that the mother of his child is employed as a driver at the Water Board in Area 6, Lilongwe.
Rather than being a model of morality, Mphote lives a hypocritical life, prioritizing money and material gain over his faith and responsibilities. He remains in a subservient position in his marriage, willing to endure mistreatment as long as his wife provides him with financial support. His origins, coming from a humble background, have not prevented him from engaging in immoral activities that reflect poorly on his integrity.
Even though he hides behind his religious title, Mphote’s actions reveal a person who is more focused on self-interest than on the well-being of his community or the truth in his statements. His refusal to acknowledge the veracity of the report and his personal conduct are a stark contrast to the values the church preaches.
It is time for individuals like Mphote to come to terms with their actions and stop misleading the public, especially when they attempt to undermine the work and words of Archbishop Msusa, who has been vocal about the need for honesty and transparency in Malawi. Until he addresses these personal contradictions, Mphote’s statements on important matters, such as the Commission of Inquiry, remain untrustworthy.
