Malawi Defence Force confirms unstable situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has confirmed that the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) remains highly unstable, with intense fighting persisting across various regions. This update is part of a communique issued today and signed by Major General Saiford Kalisha, providing a detailed status report on the deployment of MDF troops in the DRC under the Southern African Development Community (SADC) mission.

According to the communique, Malawian troops have made significant contributions to the ongoing mission, earning recognition for their vital role in halting and pushing back rebel groups in the conflict zone. Despite the instability and challenges on the ground, the MDF’s efforts have been instrumental in advancing the objectives of the SADC mission, demonstrating their commitment to regional security and peacekeeping.

The communique also addressed the tragic loss of Malawian soldiers in the line of duty. The MDF revealed that the remains of one soldier who lost their life in the DRC have already been repatriated to Malawi and laid to rest.
