The Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) elections have hit a snag, failing to produce a new set of leaders for the executive committee due to a deadlock in the chairperson position.

Despite a rerun, incumbent chairperson Chauka Mwasinga and general secretary Masiya Nyasulu remained tied, each securing 13 votes in both rounds of voting.
The election proceedings were adjourned to 13:30 hours by presiding officer Madalitso Kuyera, the Football Association of Malawi’s 1st Vice President, but this move only ignited chaos, leading to the suspension of the election until further notice.
Observers have criticized the poor electoral management, while football enthusiasts have condemned the NRFA for hosting the election at a substandard drinking joint in Rumphi District.
“It’s not only strange but also disappointing for the NRFA to host such an important elective Annual General Meeting at that substandard drinking joint,” said policeman Julius Pensilo.
The NRFA has confirmed the suspension of the election on its official Facebook page, stating that new dates will be announced soon.
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is expected to provide guidance on how the elections will proceed.
