Malawi mourns the loss of Ambassador Kester Ephraim Kaphaizi

President Lazarus Chakwera and First Lady, Monica, have expressed their profound sadness following the death of Ambassador Kester Ephraim Kaphaizi.

In a statement released by the State House, the couple extended their deepest condolences to the bereaved family, relatives, and friends during this difficult time.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family, relatives and friends as we mourn one of our own,” said the statement, reflecting the national sorrow caused by the loss.

Ambassador Kaphaizi passed away today at Artemis Hospital in New Delhi, India, where he had traveled for medical treatment.

At the time of his death, Ambassador Kaphaizi held the position of Malawi’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, as well as the permanent representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

The government of Malawi has assured the public that further details regarding the repatriation of Ambassador Kaphaizi’s body will be communicated at a later date.

This tragic loss is deeply felt by the nation, as Ambassador Kaphaizi was a distinguished diplomat who dedicated his career to representing Malawi on the international stage.
