Police have confirmed that activist Agape Khombe, leader of Citizens for Justice and Equity, was found alive on Friday evening in a garden in Area 43, Lilongwe.
Khombe was allegedly abducted on Thursday, just hours before his group was scheduled to submit a petition and the proposed Presidential Age Limit Bill to Parliament.
According to National Police spokesperson Peter Kalaya, Khombe reported being taken by force from a bottle store around Kaphiri.
His abductors allegedly blindfolded him, put him in a car, and later moved him into another vehicle. Khombe claimed he was held in an unfinished building without food or water until he was dumped in Area 43.
Security guards found Khombe with his hands and legs tied after hearing him shout for help.
The guards immediately contacted Lingadzi Police Station, and officers rushed to the scene to assist him.
After being freed, Khombe was taken to a hospital for check-ups, and doctors confirmed he was not seriously hurt.
Khombe told police that his abductors asked for his phone, but he had left it with a barman to charge before being taken.
Police are still investigating the incident and are asking Khombe further questions to learn more about what happened.
The incident is currently under investigation, and police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding Khombe’s abduction.
