Ben Longwe’s prophecy of sugar scarcity, true

By Vincent Gunde

In one of the previous audio clips, Human Rights Advocator Sir Charles Ben Longwe, made a prophecy that the country will soon be experiencing sugar scarcity and buying the commodity at a higher price following government exporting the commodity to Congo.

Ben Longwe alleged that 300 trucks loaded with bales of sugar are on the way to Congo which would in turn bring in the much-needed forex which has become a major concern by all business operators in the country.

He mentioned an identity of the one who secured a contract to export 300 trucks loaded with bales of sugar to Congo but till this day, Ben Longwe’s prophecy was not dismissed as false by government and the new Minister of Trade and Industry Vitumbiko Mumba is visiting shops by surprise suspecting of hiding sugar.

Ben Longwe said he thought after being appointed to take up a challenging position as Minister of Trade and Industry, Mumba would address Malawians on the status of skyrocketing prices of essential commodities including sugar and the plans by government to address the problem but this was not made.

A long time bona-fide member of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Chatinkha Chidzanja Nkhoma has written food for thought on her face book page that Malawians will be wasting time playing blame game instead of looking within and attempting to fix the problem saying the root cause which people are taking advantage of hiding goods, is the lack of forex.

Chidzanja has advised government on the need to stop putting bandages on a bullet wound saying it must put in place real austerity measures, cut excessive spending, stop wanton corruption by senior government officials, stop looting and stealing.

She said people are buying and building luxury mansions, hotels, lodges both in Malawi and abroad with no known source of income observing that not less than 10 ministers go to foreign trips every week, describing this as draining forex.

“People are buying fleets of luxury vehicles even registering them to their 20 year -old kids, people are buying huge farms and stealing inputs purposed for poor farmers, the list is endless,” reads Chidzanja Nkhoma’s writings on the wall.

She said calling a spade by its name, in 4 years, a number of cabinet members and other government officials have become so rich, that is disgusting observing that Mumba can move around all he wants, but the fundamental truth is, he will only achieve superficial impact.

Chidzanja said Mumba’s surprise visits to shop’s results will not turn the economy around nor bring desired relief to peoples’ suffering saying the economic crises will not be curbed observing that there are too many leaking holes to plug -in.
