In a clear display of voter discontent, Kenneth Msonda, notoriously known as ‘Atsogo’ in Malawian political circles, received a mere 8 votes out of 803 delegates in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) primary parliamentary elections for the Rumphi East Constituency.
Going by the comments showered on various social media platforms his dismal performance has left many wondering if Atsogo’s political ambitions are nothing more than a pipe dream.
Msonda’s lacklustre showing is all the more surprising given his vigorous campaign efforts and his reputation for jumping between ruling parties since Malawi’s transition to democracy in 1993.
Despite his best efforts, it seems the voters have spoken, and Atsogo’s chances of entering the August House are slim to none.
The MCP primary elections on Tuesday have been hailed for their transparency and peaceful conduct, with the party prioritizing a secret ballot method to ensure fairness.
However, for Atsogo, the writing is on the wall: his political aspirations have been resoundingly rejected by the people of his real home in Rumphi District.
