Former Inspector General of Police, Peter Mukhito, who is also the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Shadow Member of Parliament for Lilongwe City Center, has extended his generosity to the Muslim community by donating food items.

The donation was made to three mosques within Lilongwe, namely Chatata Mosque, Kauma Mosque, and Area 23 Mosque.

According to Mukhito, the gesture was a demonstration of his commitment to supporting the Muslim community, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

He emphasized that Ramadan is a period of reflection, devotion, and sacrifice, and he wanted to ensure that members of the Muslim community had the necessary food supplies to break their fasts.

The donation, which included essential food items, was warmly received by the congregations of the three mosques, who expressed their gratitude for the timely intervention.

Sheikh Drackdin Adin of Kauma Mosque described the donation as a much-needed relief for many Muslim families observing the fast.

He stated that the food assistance would go a long way in ensuring that those who were struggling financially could still observe their religious obligations without worrying about meals.

In addition to thanking Mukhito for the donation, Sheikh Adin also made a special request regarding the ongoing construction of the Kauma Mosque.

He appealed to Mukhito to consider completing the mosque’s construction, highlighting the importance of having a proper place of worship for the growing Muslim community in the area.

The request was met with applause from the congregation, signifying the pressing need for the mosque’s completion.

Mukhito acknowledged the request and assured the community that he would look into ways to assist in the construction efforts.

The donation and Mukhito’s interaction with the Muslim community have further strengthened his relationship with the people of Lilongwe City Center, where he hopes to represent DPP in the upcoming elections.

This initiative also underscores the growing importance of political figures engaging in community development efforts beyond their legislative ambitions.

With the holy month of Ramadan being a time of giving and charity, Mukhito’s act of kindness has set an example for other leaders to follow in supporting various religious and social groups.

His involvement in community projects is expected to shape public perception as he positions himself as a leader who listens to and addresses the needs of the people.

As the 2025 elections approach, such acts of goodwill could play a significant role in strengthening political and social ties between leaders and their communities.
