The Chibavi Youth Football Festival is set to return for its second edition on April 19, providing a platform for young players to showcase their skills and develop in the sport. This year’s festival has seen a significant increase in participation, with eight Under-14 teams competing for the top prize.
According to the festival’s chairperson, Mwayi Mavado Kumwenda, the event aims to unearth and nurture young talent.
“Grassroots football provides the foundation upon which future champions are built. By providing accessible and inclusive opportunities for children to play and learn, we pave the way for a brighter future for our sport,” he said.
The festival has attracted a total prize purse of K1 million, with the champions set to receive K400,000. Runners-up and third-placed teams will receive K200,000 and K100,000, respectively.
Kumwenda has called upon well-wishers to support the initiative, offering brand publicity and recognition within the local community in return for sponsorship.
Participating teams include Mzuzu City Hummers Youth, the festival’s inaugural champions, as well as Chibavi Real Stars, Young Buffalos FC, Cyclones Academy, MK Academy, Hippo FC, Mseteka Welding FC, and Topik Academy.
