The Democratic Progressive Party-DPP has postponed the Bingu wa Mutharika memorial event, which was initially scheduled for April 5th at Mpumulo wa Bata in Thyolo.
In a media statement signed by DPP’s Spokesperson, Shadric Namalomba said a new date for the event will be communicated soon.
Bingu wa Mutharika, the founder of DPP and third leader of Malawi, left an indelible mark on the country’s history.
Born on February 24, 1934, in Thyolo, Malawi, Mutharika rose to prominence as an economist and politician.
Again, he served as the President of Malawi from 2004 until his passing in 2012.
During his tenure, Mutharika implemented policies that transformed Malawi’s economy, particularly in the agricultural sector. His initiatives led to a significant increase in food production, making Malawi a net exporter of maize. He also played a crucial role in promoting regional integration, serving as the Chairman of the African Union from 2010 to 2011.
