Nankhumwa takes bold step into MCP heartland: PDP’s high-stakes campaign tour in Central Malawi

In an audacious political move, Kondwani Nankhumwa, the President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), is set to challenge the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) dominance in the Central Region by launching a series of high-profile rallies in traditionally MCP-controlled territories.

Beginning on Thursday, April 10, 2025, Nankhumwa and his team will embark on an ambitious campaign tour that will span four days, covering several key areas in the Central Region.

The tour will kick off in Nkhoma, a region deeply rooted in MCP’s historical influence. Nankhumwa’s visit to this stronghold is a clear signal of the PDP’s intent to break the longstanding grip of MCP on the region.

From Nkhoma, the tour will move to Mpenu, a vibrant area that has seen fluctuating political loyalties over the years. The PDP aims to consolidate support in these areas, and Nankhumwa’s team is prepared to deliver a message of change and hope to the electorate.

Next on the itinerary is Mazengera, an area known for its active political participation. The PDP plans to use this stop to appeal to disillusioned voters who are seeking a new direction and to rekindle the party’s grassroots support.

Later in the day, the campaign will take a crucial turn at the Court Ground in Nkhoma. This venue will serve as a focal point for rallying voters and creating momentum for the PDP’s message of reform and renewal.

On Friday, the political caravan will continue with stops in Nkhoma and Chowo, areas that are key battlegrounds in the region. Nankhumwa’s strategic focus will be on increasing the PDP’s visibility and fostering deeper connections with voters who may feel neglected by the current leadership.

The day’s journey will also bring the PDP to Mpenu once more, before heading to Chamadenga Ground, a critical site for engaging with local voters and reinforcing the PDP’s political agenda in the area.

Saturday’s events will see the party pushing further into critical zones, beginning with a rally at the Dzenza CCAP Ground. This is a significant stop, where Nankhumwa hopes to rally substantial support in an area with a diverse electorate.

Following Dzenza, the PDP will visit Mtsiliza and Mtandile Mwenera Grounds, key areas for the party to strengthen its presence and mobilize voters ahead of the crucial 2025 elections.

Sunday’s grand finale will be marked by a massive rally at Area 23, Mloza, and Kaliyeka Grounds, where the PDP will look to make a major political statement. The event will be a culmination of the party’s efforts to engage with voters across the Central Region.

The final stop will be at Ngwenya and Tsetse Grounds, where the PDP will seek to broaden its support base and reach out to the electorate in one of the most politically significant regions in Malawi.

This carefully orchestrated tour is a defining moment for the PDP, demonstrating its determination to challenge MCP’s hegemony in the Central Region and make a strong push for the upcoming 2025 general elections.

As the tour unfolds, the political landscape in Malawi will shift dramatically, with the PDP positioning itself as a serious contender for power. Nankhumwa’s political vision is now on full display, and the response from the Central Region electorate will likely shape the course of Malawi’s political future.

Political observers will closely monitor how this campaign affects the balance of power in the region, with many predicting that the outcome of this tour will have significant implications for the broader electoral contest.
