A Concerned citizen of Malawi writing in defense of Malawi’s democracy Comrade Alhaji Imraan Jumbe, has filed the final notice to the Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) to address critical concerns regarding the 16th September, 2025 General Elections.
Jumbe says the electoral process is leaving people with no choice but to prepare for an immediate court action, an injunction to halt the September, 2025 elections to safeguard democracy in Malawi noting with a great concern that the Mec has failed to respond adequately in a collective effort to safeguard democracy.
He has reminded Mec that democracy is not a favor granted by the institution, it is the sovereign right of the people saying democracy delayed, is democracy denied observing that today, Mec is standing at a historic crossroads.
Speaking through his face book page, Jumbe says the previous voter registration exercise conducted by Mec was marred by widespread irregularities, numerous names of eligible voters particularly from the Southern Region, are missing from the voters’ roll.
Jumbe says given the global controversies surrounding Smartmatic machines, he has demanded in the interest of peaceful Malawians that these machines be completely excluded for counting, transmitting, or any related purposes.
He says the recent circulation of photographs showing the Mec Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja dining with President Chakwera at the State House, demonstrated an unacceptable breach of electoral impartiality.
“A Referee cannot dine with one team and expect to be trusted by the other, this is a total breach of electoral impartiality,” reads Comrade Jumbe’s writings on the wall.
He says the registration period provided was grossly inadequate demanding for voter registration to be re-open and extended to allow all eligible citizens an equal affair. observing that in any functioning democracy, citizens must have the right to verify the voters’ roll.
Comrade Jumbe has demanded an open and unhindered access to adopt the full registration data, to eliminate jublicate entries and missing names and ensure transparency before the elections proceed to be conducted on the 16th September, 2025.
He has warned Mec that should it fail to urgently address the concerns, he will personally proceed to court to seek an injunction restraining the Commission from conducting the 16th September, 2025 General Elections.
The citizen has finally assured those in authorities that Malawians cannot and will not standby watching while the fundamental principles of the country’s democracy are being undermined, Mec must do now, time is running out, the voice of the people is the voice of God.
