By Comrade Jumbe
To the leaders of Malawi’s opposition parties, I extend heartfelt gratitude — not just for your voices, but for your courage in standing with the truth.
Your decision to heed the call I circulated — a call for an audit of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) registration roll — is not a small gesture.
It is the spark of collective vigilance. “When the wise hear the cry of justice, they do not turn away — they rise.”
You have proven that even in times of silence, there are still those who choose conscience over comfort.
As the old saying goes, “A single tree does not make a forest,” and without your stand, the people’s voice would have been weakened.
Together, we strengthen the foundations of this democracy.
But let us speak without fear — the call I made for seeking an injunction was not mere noise in the wind.”
A barking dog may frighten the thief, but it is the bite that brings justice.” This nation, our homeland, cannot be toyed with by those entrusted to safeguard its democratic soul.
Our demands are not requests for favor — they are a cry for fairness, truth, and dignity.
We demand five non-negotiable actions:
- A Complete and Fresh Voter Registration Process: The current roll is a scar upon the face of democracy. It is not merely flawed — it is rotten at the root. As they say, “You cannot straighten a shadow when the stick is bent.” A corrupted register can only yield a corrupted election.
- The Removal of All Partisan Operatives in MEC: No institution can claim neutrality when its roof is painted in partisan colors. “You cannot serve two masters and remain faithful to truth.” Veterans of political interests should have no seat at the table of impartiality.
- An End to the Use of Smartmatic: Technology should be a servant of truth, not a tool for deceit. “What is built on deception will collapse with truth.” Trust once broken must be rebuilt on new, transparent foundations.
- Extension of the Voter Registration Period: A rushed process is a robbed process. “Justice hurried is justice buried.” Many citizens have been locked out by an unreasonably narrow window. Elections are sacred — no one should be denied their right to shape the future of their nation.
- An Independent Audit of the Voter Roll: If there is nothing to hide, let the light shine.
We will engage our own experts. “When the fox guards the henhouse, the farmer must take charge.” The people themselves must now verify the truth, for trust has been betrayed.
Let it be known to MEC and to those who treat democracy like a game: if these demands are ignored, we shall knock on the door of justice.
The courts of this nation are not deaf to the cries of its people. “The mill of justice grinds slowly, but it grinds exceedingly fine.” No institution is above accountability — and no citizen beneath dignity.
To MEC: do not mistake silence for surrender. “Still waters run deep.” The patience of the people is not weakness; it is restraint. But when that restraint is broken, history has shown — even mountains can be moved.
To my fellow Malawians: “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.” Let us remain awake, aware, and aligned.
The soul of our republic depends not on the promises of institutions, but on the power of the people who built them.
Let us press forward — with truth as our banner, and justice as our compass.
