NBS Bank Plc is set to launch the 2025 NBS Bank National Football League today at a media event scheduled to take place at Mpira House in Chiwembe.

The launch marks a historic moment for Malawian football, as the new league will serve as the country’s second-tier competition beneath the prestigious TNM Super League.

The inaugural edition of the league will feature 12 competitive teams drawn from across Malawi’s three administrative regions.

Among these are three teams that were relegated from last season’s TNM Super League, who will now have a chance to fight for promotion and redemption.

They will be joined by nine top-performing teams from Malawi’s regional leagues, setting the stage for a vibrant and diverse football spectacle.

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President, Fleetwood Haiya, emphasized the significance of the second-tier league, stating that it would greatly enhance competition within the local game.

Haiya applauded NBS Bank for showing strong commitment and faith in the development of Malawian football through their sponsorship.

He noted that the bank’s willingness to partner with FAM in launching this league signals a new era of structured and sustainable football growth in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the bank, NBS Bank Chief Operations Officer Shadreck Chikusilo said the “caring bank” felt it was vital to support what he described as a revolutionary step in Malawian football.

Chikusilo described the partnership between NBS Bank and FAM as a win-win situation, with immense benefits for both the footballing community and the bank’s outreach.

He projected that the new league would not only uplift the standard of club football in Malawi, but also expand the bank’s customer base through nationwide brand visibility and community engagement.

As anticipation builds for the league’s kickoff on May 24, fans and stakeholders alike are looking forward to an exciting and competitive season that promises to reshape the future of football in Malawi.
