The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has announced that its Head Office in Lilongwe will remain open over the weekend to support the collection of nomination papers for the 2025 General Election.
This special arrangement will take effect on Saturday, 14th June 2025, and Sunday, 15th June 2025, with office hours running from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The initiative is part of MEC’s broader effort to ensure that prospective candidates for the Presidential Election have every opportunity to collect their nomination papers within the designated period.
In a show of commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, MEC has also instructed all its offices at council level across the country to remain open on the same dates and during the same hours.
These offices will be handling the collection of nomination papers for both the Parliamentary and Local Government Elections.
However, MEC has clarified that this weekend arrangement is strictly for the collection of nomination papers and does not extend to the payment or deposit of nomination fees.
All nomination fees must be paid through FDH Bank branches, which will only accept deposits during their standard banking hours.
Stakeholders, prospective candidates, and their representatives who may need clarification or assistance regarding the collection or nomination process are encouraged to contact their respective District Elections Officers.
To facilitate this, MEC has made available a document listing the contact details for all District Elections Officers across the country.
This announcement was officially signed on the 13th day of June 2025 in Lilongwe by Sangwani Mwafulirwa, the Director of Media and Public Relations at MEC.
