Malawians in Israel Urge Calm Amid Rising Tensions, Say They Are Safe in Bomb Shelters

By Burnett Munthali

Some Malawians living in Israel have described the situation on the ground as tense but manageable, with tight security measures in place.

They say every home has access to bomb shelters, and additional shelters have been placed at strategic locations throughout the country.

Speaking to Zodiak, Brito John Mota and Swabuli Affack shared their experiences of living under heightened security due to the ongoing conflict.

They explained that they receive real-time alerts whenever missiles are incoming, allowing them to quickly take cover in nearby bomb shelters.

According to the two, the missile threats have disrupted their daily lives and work routines.

However, they emphasized that they do not want the Malawian government to make any arrangements for their evacuation.

They said they are confident in Israel’s security systems and are willing to remain in the country despite the ongoing hostilities.

The recent spike in tensions follows a deadly Israeli strike in Tehran that killed high-ranking military officials.

Israel has accused Iran of supporting armed groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, which regularly launch attacks on Israeli territory.

This has triggered a series of retaliatory missile exchanges between the two nations, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.

Despite the escalating violence, Malawians residing in Israel remain calm and alert, relying on early warning systems and the country’s well-developed civil defense infrastructure.

They say their priority is to stay informed, stay safe, and continue with their lives as best they can under the circumstances.
