Mulhako wa Alhomwe 2025: Cultural Festival to Address Youth Challenges Through Enduring Spirit

By Burnett Munthali

Mulhako wa Alhomwe board chairperson Muchanakwaye Mpuluka has revealed that this year’s cultural festival will focus on addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by the youth in Malawi.

According to Mpuluka, this shift in focus aligns with the festival’s theme for 2025, “Enduring Spirit: Overcoming Challenges Together.”

He explained that the alarming increase in cases of drug abuse and suicide among young people is a clear indication of the heavy burden they are carrying.

Mpuluka said that through various cultural performances and activities during the festival, the organizers aim to reach out to young people and inspire them to rise above their difficulties.

“That is the spirit of our theme this year,” Mpuluka emphasized.

The Mulhako wa Alhomwe board has officially announced that the 17th edition of the annual cultural celebration will be held on October 19, 2025.

The event will take place at its traditional venue, Chonde in Mulanje District, where thousands are expected to gather to celebrate Lhomwe heritage.

Mpuluka added that preparations for the event are already in motion, with the organizing committee working hard to surpass the standards set in previous years.

He expressed optimism that this year’s event will not only celebrate culture but also spark meaningful conversations and interventions around the issues affecting the youth.

As anticipation builds, this year’s Mulhako wa Alhomwe promises to blend cultural pride with social awareness, using heritage as a vehicle for healing and empowerment.
