In a gesture aimed at alleviating hunger and food insecurity, Illovo Sugar Company has donated maize to 6,500 households in the area of Traditional Authority Lundu in Chikwawa.
Speaking during the donation ceremony, Kondwani Msimuko, the company’s Corporate Affairs Manager, expressed concern over the hunger situation affecting people in the area where the company operates. He stated that the donation was a way of assisting the community with food during a difficult time.
Msimuko revealed that the company has a long-standing relationship with the local community and has been supporting smallholder farmers in the area. He added that the company aims to support 46 smallholder farmers in the current season.

Traditional Authority Lundu, who received the donation on behalf of the community, thanked Illovo Sugar Company for the gesture, saying it would go a long way in alleviating hunger among his subjects.
The donation is a timely intervention, coming at a time when many households in the area are struggling to access food due to various challenges, including drought and economic hardships.
Illovo Sugar Company’s donation is a demonstration of the company’s commitment to supporting the local community and contributing to the well-being of the people in the areas where it operates.
