UTM Rallies Support in Machinga with Vision of Economic Revival

The United Transformation Movement (UTM) has intensified its campaign efforts in the lead-up to the September 16 elections with a spirited two-day whistle-stop tour in Machinga district, led by its President, Dr. Dalitso Kabambe.

Addressing enthusiastic crowds at various stopovers, Dr. Kabambe delivered a powerful message focused on economic revival and national transformation. “Malawi needs a strong president to stabilize the economy,” he declared. “The current economic crisis—marked by hunger, rising fuel prices, forex shortages, and decaying infrastructure—cannot continue. But with the right leadership, we can turn things around.”

His message struck a chord with locals, many of whom continue to endure the brunt of economic hardship. Dr. Kabambe outlined UTM’s ambitious plans for Machinga, promising the construction of roads, modern markets, school blocks, and hospitals. He also committed to transforming Machinga into a thriving business hub by leveraging its key position as a border district between Malawi and Mozambique.

Dr. Patricia Kaliati, UTM’s Senior Presidential Advisor, added momentum to the campaign, criticizing the current administration’s handling of the economy and calling for urgent change. “The people of Malawi are suffering, and it’s time for a new direction,” she said. “If you want a better life and sustainable change, vote for Dr. Kabambe and UTM.”

The two-day tour concluded with optimism in the air. UTM’s promises of development and economic stability have stirred hope in Machinga, with many residents now eagerly anticipating whether the party’s pledges will be realized after the polls.

As September 16 draws closer, Machinga stands as a critical battleground—and a symbol of the growing demand for economic renewal across the nation.
