Mindset Change Key to Malawi’s Progress – Dr. Kainja

By Jones Gadama

The National Planning Commission recently organized a day-long seminar focused on integrated mindset change, a crucial step towards achieving lower-middle economy status and meeting most Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

The event brought together stakeholders to discuss the agenda for the consultation meeting.

Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Dr. Esmie Kainja, emphasized the importance of mindset change in propelling Malawi’s progress.

She highlighted the country’s significant strides in promoting women’s empowerment, noting that Malawi has made remarkable progress since 1995 when women were underrepresented in strategic positions.

Dr. Kainja, who attended the first-ever Beijing conference in China, praised the country’s progress, saying, “Malawi is doing great in women as compared to 1995… and we will continue to do better.” Her sentiments echoed the National Planning Commission’s call for mindset change to drive development.

The commission has been at the forefront of promoting mindset change, with Commissioner Phillip Madinga urging Malawians to develop self-esteem and get directly involved in activities aimed at developing the country.

The National Transformation 2063 vision aims to transform Malawi into a self-reliant and industrialized nation, with key pillars including agricultural commercialization, industrialization, and urbanization.

The seminar underscores the government’s commitment to achieving lower-middle economy status and meeting SDGs by 2030. With collective effort and mindset change, Malawi can unlock its potential and drive progress.
