DPP expects to sign another electoral alliance, Friday

By Vincent Gunde

After signing a historical electoral alliance with the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) on Thursday in Lilongwe, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is expecting to sign another electoral alliance on Friday, 25th July, 2025 ahead of the 16th September, 2025 elections.

DPP Director of Political Affairs Ben Phiri said the party’s core objective is to bail out Malawians from this clueless MCP government which is doing all of what it can for President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to bounce back into government contrary to the will of Malawians.

Senior DPP officials in the company of Dr. George Chaponda, Peter Mukhito, Ben Phiri and Sameer Suleman on Thursday travelled to the AFORD office for a press conference which was addressed by AFORD President Enock Kamzingeni Chihana.

During the presser, Chihana announced that his party has formed the electoral alliance with the DPP saying they have made a strong decision to support Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s candidature on the 16th September, 2025 elections with a strong vision of liberating Malawians from the jaws of the MCP government.

Chihana said AFORD as a party is not only supporting the candidature of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika but also endorsing whoever Mutharika names as his choice as a running mate saying all this is being made to rescue Malawi.

He said democracy in Malawi is under-siege warning opposition leaders that if they are not careful allowing the MCP to drive the country in the way they are driving, the country risks of going back to one-party state and dictatorship.

The AFORD President accused the MCP and President Chakwera of failing to listen to constructive ideas observing that hunger which has hit the country hard is man-made not from God claiming that it has been caused by the rising cost of fertilizer which is beyond the reach of many in Malawi.

“Apart from hunger, this country is suffering from persistence fuel scarcity, skyrocketing prices of essential goods, and lack of employment opportunities which has made many youths in Malawi, vulnerable,” said Chihana.

Meanwhile, the DPP has made a special announcement that former President and the current President of the party Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, will officially present his nomination papers for the upcoming presidential elections on Friday at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

In an announcement made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary Shadric Namalomba, the DPP has extended a warm invitation to all party members, alliance partners, and supporters making Lilongwe all Blue to join Professor Mutharika as he presents his nomination papers.

“This is a momentous occasion that marks the beginning of a new chapter for our country, and we are urging everyone to be part of it,” reads the special announcement in pa
