A new dawn for Malawi: Why Kabambe and Mtumbuka are the right choice

By Allan Ngumuya

Malawians, for years, you’ve prayed for a better future—for yourselves and your children. You’ve hoped for leaders who would steer the nation towards prosperity, and at last, your prayers have been answered. But only those with spiritual insight and faith will truly recognize this blessing.

This time, God has brought not one, but two remarkable leaders to Malawi’s political forefront: Dr. Dalitso Kabambe and Dr. Mathews Mtumbuka. Together, they represent the best presidential pairing the country has ever had.

These are two young, educated, and committed Christian men—one a Seventh-day Adventist and the other a Catholic. Their dedication to serving Malawi is unwavering, and they have the qualifications, experience, and character to lead our nation to a better future.

This is a special moment, particularly for the youth of Malawi. It’s time to open your eyes and see that these leaders are the real deal. Don’t be misled by the same old promises from parties and individuals who have failed to deliver since the tragic death of President Bingu wa Mutharika in 2012.

  1. The Failure of the People’s Party (PP)

Let’s remember the period between 2012 and 2014 when Dr. Joyce Banda led Malawi. Her tenure was marred by the devastating Cashgate scandal, which plunged the country into economic turmoil. Banda’s government failed Malawians—promises were broken, and corruption ran rampant.

Despite this, some people still want to bring Banda and her former vice president Khumbo Kachali back to power. But their track record speaks for itself. We cannot afford to go backwards. The same individuals linked to Cashgate, like Paul Mphwiyo, are still on the run. Bringing them back would be a disaster.

  1. The DPP Era: A Cycle of Corruption and Mismanagement

When the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) came to power in 2014 under Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, we were promised change. What we got, however, was a government riddled with tribalism, cronyism, and nepotism. Corruption was rampant, and the public sector was plundered.

We all remember the electricity shortages, the mismanagement of national institutions, and the widespread abuse of power. The infamous TIPPEX scandal undermined public trust in the electoral system, and yet, DPP has never offered a sincere apology to the nation.

Despite their failures, DPP wants to bring Professor Mutharika back for a third term—at the age of 85. Is this the kind of leadership we want? They continue to use him as a figurehead while hiding behind him to further their own agendas. The people who looted our resources, such as ESCOM and NOCMA, want to return to power, but we must ask ourselves: Do we really want them back?

  1. The Malawi Congress Party (MCP): More Empty Promises

The current government, led by Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), has brought more pain than progress. Under MCP, we’ve seen skyrocketing prices, unemployment, and economic hardship. Fertilizer and basic necessities have become unaffordable.

Chakwera’s promises of economic revival and development have fallen flat. The Chakwera government has failed to address the basic needs of the people. It’s clear—MCP has failed Malawi.

A Future of Hope and Progress

But this election presents a new opportunity for change. Dr. Dalitso Kabambe and Dr. Mathews Mtumbuka offer a fresh, hopeful vision for Malawi’s future. They are not only educated and experienced, but they also possess the moral integrity and vision needed to lead the country forward.

These two men are committed to serving the people, not themselves. They represent a new Malawi—one that is built on transparency, accountability, and real solutions to the problems facing the nation.

Beware of Manipulated Candidates

Malawi, it’s important to be aware that many of the other presidential candidates are merely puppets of powerful political forces, and their sole purpose is to split the vote. Some cannot even afford to run a serious campaign, and many are backed by parties with no real vision for the country’s future.

For instance, imagine if Michael Usi became president, and Maggie Nazitwele was his vice president. What would happen if something happened to the president? Would Nazitwele be capable of leading Malawi? Are these really the kinds of leaders we want?

Conclusion: Choose the Best for Malawi

Malawi, we stand at a crossroads. This election is not just about choosing a president—it’s about choosing the future of this nation. We cannot afford to go backward. We must move forward with Dr. Dalitso Kabambe and Dr. Mathews Mtumbuka, the leaders who have the experience, integrity, and vision to transform Malawi.

This is the opportunity we’ve been waiting for. Let’s not waste it.
