Bertha Masiku, an independent shadow parliamentarian candidate for the Chilomoni, Nancholi Kabula constituency, has launched a heartfelt appeal to voters to support her in the upcoming elections.
Masiku, who previously served as the Member of Parliament (MP) before being ousted in 2009, vowed to complete the development projects she had initiated during her tenure but were abandoned by her successors.
Speaking after successful submission of her nomination paper at Namiwawa school centre, Masiku highlighted her commitment to improving education in the constituency. She revealed that she had started a project to establish a secondary school aimed at providing quality education to local students.
Unfortunately, this initiative was left incomplete, denying many young people access to good secondary education close to home.
“Education is the foundation of progress, and it pains me to see our youth being denied this right because the necessary infrastructure was never completed,” she said.
In addition to education, Masiku outlined her plans to improve the constituency’s road infrastructure.
She pointed out that several roads remain unpaved, which hinders transportation and economic activities. “I am determined to see these roads tarred to enhance mobility and open up business opportunities for our people,” she declared.
Masiku also acknowledged the challenges she faces as a female candidate competing against male opponents.
She described the contest as tough but expressed confidence that her track record and dedication to the community would resonate with voters.
“I am ready to face these challenges head-on because my focus is on serving the people and bringing tangible change,” she said.
The Chilomoni, Nancholi Kabula constituency is closely watching the electoral race, with Bertha Masiku’s bid seen as a significant attempt to reclaim her position and fulfill promises made over a decade ago.
As the election day approaches, residents will decide whether to entrust her once again with the mandate to lead and develop their community.
