Tauka Athletics Runs for Dreams: K300 Million Marathon from Blantyre to Lilongwe

By Suleman Chitera

In a bold move blending ambition with endurance, Tauka Athletics has today kicked off a remarkable running journey from Blantyre to Lilongwe to raise K300 million. Their mission? To purchase a vehicle and build a state-of-the-art facility that will serve as a beacon for athletics and other fitness disciplines in Malawi.

Leading the charge is Chairperson Mzee Makawa and Coach Moses Mkondowe, who revealed that 40 passionate young athletes are pounding the pavement in this symbolic and spirited trek across the nation.

“This isn’t just a run. It’s a journey of hope, determination, and belief in the potential of Malawi’s youth,” said Makawa.

The initiative is aimed at developing raw local talent, especially in long-distance running, and opening doors to international competitions. With every step, these athletes carry the weight of a shared dream—to turn Malawi into a powerhouse in athletics.

There is also great anticipation that President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will personally receive the runners at the Lilongwe Interchange tomorrow, a gesture that would mark a significant endorsement of grassroots sports development.

As Tauka Athletics blazes this trail, the message is loud and clear: the race toward national pride, youth empowerment, and athletic excellence has well and truly begun.
