United Democratic Front (UDF) president Atupele Muluzi has declared himself the only candidate with the right expertise to steer Malawi toward economic stability and prosperity.
Speaking in Matawale, Zomba, where he wrapped up his whistle-stop campaign in the district, Muluzi promised decisive reforms that would put “money in people’s pockets” within five months of taking office, should he win the September 16 election.
“For twenty years, you’ve never heard that I stole from Malawians,” he said, contrasting his leadership style with previous administrations. He praised former president Dr. Joyce Banda for efforts to stabilize the economy and acknowledged order under the Mutharika regime, but insisted that Malawi now needs “a youthful leader with fresh ideas.”
UDF parliamentary candidate for northern Zomba, Devie Maunde, echoed Muluzi’s call for change, lamenting the lack of development in the city. “There is nothing that makes Zomba look like a real city. Businesses collapse whenever University of Malawi students close school,” Maunde said. He urged Muluzi to prioritize building a secondary school in the area to save students from traveling long distances for education, which puts their lives at risk.
With his message of youth-driven leadership and economic revival, Muluzi is positioning himself as the candidate for Malawians seeking bold solutions and a break from the past.
