The weekend of August 9th-10th has proven to be a thrilling one in the northern region of Malawi, with a vibrant celebration of culture and sports!
The highly-anticipated Umthetho cultural festival, also known as the annual Ngoni heritage Festival, has drawn in crowds from far and wide, with Head of State Lazarus Chakwera in attendance.
On the other hand, sports enthusiasts in Mzuzu City are in for a treat as the One Nico Top 12 Netball Cup gets underway at the Mzuzu Stadium.
Thirteen teams from across the northern districts are battling it out for a spot in this year’s NICO Netball championship, scheduled for August 30th.
Netball Association of Malawi’s Technical Director, Joseph Mazaza, praised the impressive level of competition, saying, “Netball has tremendously developed in the region, looking at the level of competition showcased on Saturday morning.
“Let’s hope for the very best as we approach the finals on Sunday,” Said Mazaza.
Just a stone’s throw from the stadium, volleyball fans are enjoying the Grand Palace Mzuzu International Volleyball Championship.
The tournament kicked off with a thrilling match between a Zimbabwean side and Chibavi Spikers, with the visitors displaying their skills and booking a spot in the next stage of the championship.
One thing is clear – this weekend is one for the books as the region comes alive with the sounds of drums, cheers, and sporting actions, with culture and sports converging in a celebration of spirit and athleticism.
