Last week, MEC published the official list of 17 candidates cleared to contest in the Presidential election scheduled for September 16. However, the names of Dube and several of his colleagues were noticeably absent from the list.

Dube explained that the party has formally challenged MEC’s decision, claiming that the commission made an error in tallying evidence from Kasungu district. While the NPP presented evidence showing 15 qualified signatures, MEC reportedly counted only 8.

“We have submitted an appeal and are currently awaiting MEC’s response,” said Dube. Despite the uncertainty, the Nationalist Patriotic Party continues its campaign efforts ahead of the election day.

The appeal highlights ongoing concerns around the electoral process as Malawi approaches a pivotal vote. Observers and stakeholders will be closely watching MEC’s response and any subsequent developments regarding the NPP’s participation in the race.
