Malawi Congress Party Warns VP Michael Usi, Threatens Probe Over Criticism of Government
Lilongwe, Malawi — Tensions between the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and the country’s Vice President, Michael Usi, have intensified after the ruling party publicly warned him against making statements critical of the government.
Speaking at a press conference in Lilongwe, MCP spokesperson Jessie Kabwila accused Usi of undermining the administration of President Lazarus Chakwera through his public remarks.

“Mr. Usi, you should simply be grateful that you were appointed Vice President by Mr. Chakwera,” Kabwila said. “We can investigate you right now because the number of vehicles and party-branded clothes in your party has increased, yet your salary does not match that.”
The warning comes after Usi openly criticized certain government officials, accusing them of failing to work diligently and responsibly in their roles. His comments have sparked debate about unity within the government ahead of the next election cycle
