As voting day approaches, Shadow Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Councillor for Lilongwe Mpenu Ward, Hon. Bruno Daka, has urged residents to vote for President Lazarus Chakwera and his government to ensure that development continues in the area.
Speaking at Kaphala Village during a campaign meeting that attracted a large crowd, Hon. Daka warned the people against being misled by what he described as “greedy politicians” whose only interest is to use the electorate without delivering tangible development.
“You should not be cheated by other politicians. If you vote for them, they will not develop this area — they are failures,” he told the gathering.
He reminded the audience of President Chakwera’s achievements, citing improvements in infrastructure such as roads in Lilongwe City. Hon. Daka also praised the incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Eisenhower Mkaka, for spearheading significant projects.
“Our current MP, Hon. Mkaka, has done a lot for this constituency. He has constructed a health centre that was not there before, provided safe and potable water in villages such as Gondwa, and maintained 40 boreholes. Why look elsewhere when we already have a proven leader? Hon. Mkaka is a son of this area and has a passion for development. Do not make the mistake of voting for other candidates,” he stressed.
Hon. Daka also urged residents to forget the chaos that occurred during the MCP primaries, saying that true supporters of President Chakwera and the party would not run as independent candidates.
When asked by Malawi Freedom Network what his priorities would be if elected, Hon. Daka said he has “a lot to do” because the former councillor failed to work closely with the people, resulting in a lack of development in the ward.
Commenting on his speech, Group Village Headmen Gondwa and Kaphala told this reporter that the people have the freedom to choose their leaders. However, they advised their subjects to vote for candidates who can deliver on development promises, such as Hon. Daka and Hon. Mkaka. They also urged Hon. Daka to prioritize the rehabilitation of feeder roads if elected.
There are six candidates contesting the parliamentary seat — one each from the MCP, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), and Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu, along with two independents. For the councillor position, there are three candidates — one each from the MCP, DPP, and an independent.
