Malawi’s Vice President Michael Usi, who also leads the Odya Zake Party, has boldly refused to back down or apologize after accusing certain government leaders of corruption. Speaking at a recent rally in Ulongwe, Balaka District, Usi insisted he has solid knowledge of those involved but is holding back their names for legal reasons.
The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson, Jessie Kabwila, fired back, demanding Usi either submit concrete evidence to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) or resign for damaging the reputation of a government he benefits from. But Usi fired back, questioning why law enforcement hasn’t approached him to expose the corrupt.

“Why aren’t the police and ACB asking me so that I can name them for you to arrest? Those who arrest people should come to me, and I will tell them who is involved in corruption. I cannot just come here and shout out people’s names for nothing,” he challenged.
Political analyst George Chaima weighed in, urging Malawians to come forward with evidence to support investigations. However, he cautioned that the ACB’s current leadership lacks the real authority to make arrests, casting doubt on its effectiveness.
As Malawi’s fight against corruption heats up, the question remains — will those implicated be brought to justice, or will silence continue to shield the powerful?
