Traditional Leaders in Mzimba Endorse UTM’s Kabambe and Mtumbuka Ahead of Malawi Elections

By Suleman Chitera

Mzimba, Malawi – More than 100 traditional leaders from Mbalachanda in Mzimba Central have thrown their support behind UTM Party presidential candidate Dalitso Kabambe and his running mate, Matthews Mtumbuka, ahead of the September 16, 2025, Malawi elections.

The chiefs cited years of government neglect in their region, including poor road infrastructure, a lack of staff housing at local health centers, inadequate clean water access, and poor teacher accommodation as key reasons for their endorsement.

UTM’s Pledge for Rural Development and Youth Employment

Speaking at the gathering, UTM running mate Matthews Mtumbuka highlighted the party’s commitment to rural development, youth job creation, and economic recovery. He criticized past administrations for failing to address critical infrastructure gaps and rising unemployment.

“For too long, our communities have been neglected. The UTM government will prioritize rural development, improve healthcare and education, and create jobs for the youth,” Mtumbuka declared.

Key UTM Manifesto Promises:

  • Youth Employment: Boosting jobs through Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and IT-Enabled Services (ITES) to help young Malawians earn foreign exchange.
  • Economic Stability: Strengthening the Malawian kwacha and reducing the cost of living.
  • Infrastructure Development: Upgrading roads, healthcare facilities, and schools in rural areas like Mzimba.

Why Mzimba’s Support Matters

Mzimba is a key vote-rich region in Malawi, and the endorsement from traditional leaders could significantly influence voter sentiment. The chiefs expressed hope that a UTM-led government would finally address their long-standing challenges.

As the 2025 Malawi elections approach, Dalitso Kabambe and the UTM Party are positioning themselves as champions of rural transformation and youth empowerment, aiming to challenge established political forces.
