Blantyre, Malawi – The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has dismissed concerns raised by Kenneth Bwanali, who recently wrote a letter questioning the absence of party president Arthur Peter Mutharika from campaign rallies ahead of the 2025 elections.
DPP spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba told Zodiak Online that Bwanali is not a registered member of the party, alleging that his remarks may have been influenced by rival political groups seeking to tarnish the former president’s image.

“Party supporters should not be alarmed by Mutharika’s absence from rallies. The DPP has a clear strategy, and everything is under control,” Namalomba assured.
But Bwanali, who insists he is a concerned supporter, maintained that his statement was self-motivated and not influenced by anyone. He warned that the continued absence of Mutharika could negatively affect the party’s performance in the upcoming polls.
Meanwhile, political analyst Dr. George Phiri has urged DPP leaders to reflect on such concerns instead of dismissing them outright. He said internal criticism, if handled well, could help strengthen the party’s strategies ahead of elections.
The debate comes at a time when opposition parties are intensifying preparations for the 2025 presidential race, with Mutharika still a key figure despite questions about his public visibility.
