The Malawi First-the People First citizen group has thanked Malawians in the diaspora and within the country for responding to its call to donate various items to go towards people of Kasasire in Nkhatabay district.
The Malawi First said the people of Kasasire are being accommodated in the camp at a school owned by the Livingstonia CCAP Synod claiming that the people there are living as refugees and asylum seekers in their own country.
President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera being Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces in Malawi ordered soldiers to vacate the people of Kasasire on the claims that the land in question was not customary land, it was for Malawi Defense Force (MDF)soldiers’ training area.
Leader of the Malawi First Comrade Bon Kalindo, has claimed that soldiers went to Kasasire with growing anger in their hearts, they shot their domesticated livestock to death, slashing their bananas and other food crops in addition to beating up people without mercy.
Kalindo said there were families who were resisting to move out of the area saying these families were arrested and thrown into Mzuzu Prison as a lesson to the would-be offenders that will be resisting to die for their ancestors’ land.
The High Court in Mzuzu ruled in their favor that the Kasasire land was a customary land ordering the MCP led government under President Chakwera to compensate the Kasasire people and a return to their original land.
Kalindo has claimed that one year has gone, the people of Kasasire are still living at a Camp like refugees beside the High Court of Malawi ruled on their favor and they don’t know when they will return to their land for life to be back to normal.
He said Malawi First will be going to Kasasire in Nkhatabay for the second time saying first, they went to distribute food which was donated by Malawians led by the famous JB in the United States of America (USA) and well-wishers in Malawi.
The activist has claimed that poverty by the Kasasire people have doubled if not tripled, no food, no shelter and blankets saying this time around, they are going there to distribute blankets and other items.
“These people ran away from their houses with nothing, their houses were completely demolished as if they were at war with the soldiers,” said Kalindo.
He has appealed to the leaders and people of Kasasiire that time is now to fight for their own freedom advising them to go to Nkhatabay District Commissioner (DC) for answers on when they are going back to their land
