Today was another busy day for Hon. Bruno Daka, who is contesting as councillor for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) in the upcoming general election.
He held a campaign rally at Ng’ozi Primary School, where he appealed to the community to vote for him as councillor for Sanjiko Ward, Hon. Eisenhower Mkaka as Member of Parliament, and Dr. Lazarus Chakwera as President.
Daka told the gathering that for the area to benefit from meaningful development, people must vote for the trio, as they represent a united team committed to improving lives.
In his speech, he highlighted the many challenges facing the area, including scarcity of portable water, lack of a health clinic, absence of a nearby market to access AIP inputs, poor road infrastructure, shortage of teachers’ houses and classrooms, and high school dropout rates.
He attributed these problems to negligence by past leaders and poor governance.
Daka assured the crowd that if they voted for him, Mkaka, and President Chakwera, the area would be “tremendously transformed.”
“It is a shame to see you drinking unsafe water with livestock in this 21st century, and it pains me a lot,” he said. He urged the people not to be deceived by candidates who failed to deliver in the past, warning that independents who lost in MCP primaries were only motivated by greed.
“For the area to develop, you need to choose a winning team with the capacity to implement projects. That team is us. Remember, Chakwera delivers,” he declared.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Group Village Headman Chimwenje praised Mkaka for his commitment to development.
He cited the renovation of Ng’ozi Primary School after classrooms were blown off by wind, even before Mkaka became MP. He added that Mkaka had attempted to renovate teachers’ houses but was blocked by what he called jealousy from former leaders.
Chief Chimwenje appealed to Mkaka to prioritize renovating the head teacher’s house before the school reopens.
He further lamented the absence of boreholes in the area, claiming the only one available had been taken over by a quarry company. He asked Mkaka to drill boreholes with taps, similar to projects he implemented in Mazengera.
The Chief also thanked the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) for constituency demarcation, which brought Mkaka closer as their representative.
“Now we will enjoy the fruits of our votes because champions of development are representing us,” said Chimwenje. He accused former leaders of misusing Constituency Development Funds and neglecting the area.
He noted that people still have to travel long distances to Nathenje for medical services due to lack of a health centre, while roads remain in bad shape.
The Chief pledged full support for Daka as councillor, Mkaka as MP, and Chakwera as President, saying the community recognizes them as a “team of development.”
Daka concluded by assuring the people that “everything will be possible,” but only if they voted for all three MCP candidates on September 16.
“This is the train carrying development to this area. If you miss it, you will have missed the future,” he emphasized.
The rally was part of Daka’s continued campaign meetings where he is engaging communities to share MCP’s development agenda and his own priorities as councillor.
