Enock Chihana Questions MCP Denial of Jobs and Fertilizer Promises

By Suleman Chitera

Lilongwe, Malawi – Enock Chihana, the leader of the Alliance for Democracy (Aford), has expressed surprise at the Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) denial of its commitment to provide one million jobs and subsidized fertilizer at K4,450.

Chihana, one of the four leaders who signed the Tonse Alliance agreement, emphasized that the commitments were a collective responsibility and fully agreed upon by all signatories.

“That one was a collective responsibility, and those who talk a lot about the fertilizer being sold at K4,000 are nothing but Chakwera’s people,” Chihana said.

This statement comes amid growing debates over political promises and accountability as Malawi approaches its next elections. The MCP has faced criticism from opposition leaders and civil society groups for allegedly backtracking on some of its pre-election pledges.
