Blantyre – The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has expressed surprise over President Lazarus Chakwera’s decision to announce a new fertilizer price.
At a press briefing in Blantyre, senior party official Hon. Sameer Suleman revealed that President Chakwera is expected to set the price of a 50-kilogram bag of fertilizer at K92,500.

“We are surprised because Parliament had already approved K161 billion for this program. Where is he getting these figures from? Does this mean he wants to discontinue the Affordable Input Program (AIP)? If so, he should have gone to Parliament first for approval,” Suleman said.
The DPP’s reaction highlights growing concerns over transparency and adherence to parliamentary processes in the implementation of agricultural programs.
