Blantyre, Malawi – Peter Mutharika, leader of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and a presidential candidate in next week’s national elections, is set to conduct whistle-stop rallies across key districts in Malawi’s Southern Region tomorrow. The campaign tour will culminate in Malawi’s commercial hub, Blantyre.
Mutharika’s planned stops include Mangochi Turn-off in Balaka, Songani, Chinamwali, and Thondwe in Zomba, and Kachere in Blantyre city. These rallies aim to mobilize support and connect directly with voters as the campaign period nears its end.
The DPP leader has consistently emphasized that his party offers leadership focused on the needs of Malawians. Speaking to large crowds in Liwonde and Mangochi last week, Mutharika urged citizens to vote for him, stating that while Malawi has a president, the country lacks true leadership.
Mutharika highlighted critical national challenges such as fuel shortages, a dwindling foreign currency reserve, and rising prices of essential goods, pledging to address these issues if elected.
Political analysts suggest that Mutharika’s whistle-stop approach is designed to energize grassroots support and strengthen DPP’s visibility ahead of the elections.
About DPP: Founded in 2005, the Democratic Progressive Party is one of Malawi’s major political parties, promoting economic development, good governance, and national unity.
