Blantyre, Malawi – Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president, Peter Mutharika, has vowed to introduce free secondary school education and provide free passports to Malawians traveling abroad for medical treatment or studies if voted back into power.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Zingwangwa market, Mutharika dismissed critics who claim he cannot contest for the presidency, saying he is determined to continue serving Malawians and restore development.

“Those who say I cannot run for president, in their heads they drunk alcohol called ambuye mtengenj,” Mutharika told his cheering supporters.

The former president emphasized that education is the key to national development, stressing that no child should be denied access to school because of financial challenges. He promised that under his administration, secondary school education will be free across Malawi, making it easier for young people to complete their studies.

In addition, Mutharika pledged to introduce free passports for Malawians who need to travel abroad for medical treatment or educational purposes. According to him, this initiative will ease the financial burden on families and open up opportunities for citizens to access healthcare and advanced studies outside the country.

The rally in Zingwangwa attracted a large crowd, with supporters chanting DPP slogans as Mutharika outlined his vision for economic recovery, youth empowerment, and improved social services.

With elections around the corner, Mutharika’s promises of free education and passports are likely to be among the most debated issues as Malawians weigh their choices at the ballot box.
