According to official tallies, Mutharika secured 213,241 votes, while his main rival, Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), managed only 5,676 votes.
Massive Support for Mutharika in Zomba
Zomba, one of Malawi’s key districts in the Southern Region, has once again demonstrated overwhelming support for Mutharika. The huge margin reflects DPP’s strong grassroots presence and its ability to mobilize voters in the area.
Implications for the 2025 Election
The Zomba results strengthen Mutharika’s national tally and highlight the regional voting patterns that are emerging in this year’s hotly contested race. Political analysts suggest that such margins in the Southern Region could play a decisive role in shaping the final outcome of the elections.
National Outlook
With results continuing to flow into the National Tally Centre in Lilongwe, Mutharika’s lead in Zomba is expected to boost his overall standing as he battles it out with Chakwera for the presidency.
