Lilongwe, Malawi – Sunday, September 21, 2025 – Malawi Congress Party (MCP) senior member Chatinkha Chidzanja Nkhoma has come out strongly with a candid message to MCP supporters, urging them to accept the election defeat and avoid being misled by party officials offering false hopes of a comeback.
Speaking on a holy Sunday, Nkhoma emphasized that her words were driven by the fear of God, not human influence. She boldly declared:
“My fellow MCP members and supporters, we have lost the elections – PERIOD. Palibe zonamizana apa.”
Warning Against False PromisesMutharika Leads in Latest Pre-Election Survey
According to Nkhoma, some MCP officials (“adindo”) are cheating members by suggesting that the party still has a chance of overturning the results. She condemned this practice, calling it a dangerous move that only incites unnecessary chaos among loyal supporters.
Instead of fighting a lost battle, she stressed the importance of facing reality:
“We can’t keep cheating our members and supporters kuti atibela… no, that’s not right. While some leaders are giving false hope, they are already preparing their own exit.”
Leaders Accused of Secret Exit Plans
In her explosive statement, Nkhoma claimed that some top MCP leaders are secretly:
Buying land and properties through DPP channels
Smuggling money and valuables outside Malawi
Sending their families abroad in preparation for possible escape
She warned that once these leaders flee, it will be the grassroots supporters left behind to face the political retribution from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Call for Acceptance and Unity
Nkhoma urged MCP members to accept the political reality that Malawians have rejected the party at the polls due to poor leadership and mistakes made during their term. She added that the best step forward is to acknowledge defeat and begin a period of reflection.
“Let’s stop being used and accept that our leaders messed up big time and Malawians have booted us out. We have paid the price.”
What This Means for MCP
The remarks from Chatinkha Chidzanja Nkhoma add to the growing internal divisions within MCP following the election loss. While some members push for legal challenges and protests, others are calling for a new direction and leadership renewal to rebuild the party’s future.
As Malawi transitions under the leadership of President Peter Mutharika and the DPP, all eyes remain on how MCP will handle defeat—whether by clinging to denial or embracing reform.
