Lilongwe, September 23, 2025 (Mana): The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has postponed its scheduled press briefing today, citing the need to finalize the review of outstanding election results.

MEC Public Relations Officer Sangwani Mwafulirwa confirmed the development, stating that the commission will announce the final presidential election results tomorrow, Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 2 p.m.

“The commission is still reviewing some results that are yet to be verified. Once this process is completed, we will release the official outcome,” Mwafulirwa explained.

MEC Dismisses Court Injunction Speculations

In response to media reports alleging that the delay was connected to a court injunction obtained by Malawi Congress Party (MCP) presidential candidate Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, Mwafulirwa firmly dismissed the claims.

“The postponement has nothing to do with any injunction. It is purely a matter of ensuring accuracy and transparency in the results,” he clarified.

High Public Anticipation

The delay has heightened public anticipation as Malawians await the announcement of their new president who will lead the country until 2030. Political observers note that this period is critical for maintaining public trust and peace as competing parties watch closely for transparency in the process.
