Priest Urges Christians to Pray During Lent
By Mabvuto Kalawa, Correspondent Malawi Freedom Network
As Catholic faithfuls gathered for Ash Wednesday prayers at Nathenje, Assistant Priest Father Francis Damaseke urged all Christians to pray hard during the Lent period. “Lent is a time to reflect on our Christian values, to suffer with Jesus Christ, and to be close to God,” he said.
Father Damaseke emphasized three key pillars for a successful Lent: praying, fasting, and doing charity work. He encouraged Christians to help the underprivileged, confess their sins, and avoid doing charity work for show.

A parishioner, Mrs. Anne Chirwa, echoed the priest’s message, saying the day meant a lot to her Christianity. “Let us suffer with Jesus Christ, pray hard, and do charity work as required,” she said.
The prayers were attended by Christians from Nathenje and Matapira centres, with similar services held in other centres.
